Day 1: Arrival in the Land of Mist
Your journey begins with a short domestic flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro airstrip,
a gateway to the fabled Kigezi highlands. As the plane descends, you gaze at patchwork hills, terraced
farmland, and mist curling like silk around the Virunga volcanoes.
At the airstrip, our friendly Focaccia Tours guide greets you with a warm smile and a chilled bottle of
Ugandan mineral water. The drive to your lodge takes you past villages alive with laughter, children
waving as you pass. On arrival at your boutique eco-lodge, you are welcomed with fresh juice and a
view of the impenetrable forest.
The afternoon is relaxed. You may wander into a nearby village to meet artisans weaving baskets or
roasting coffee. Dinner is a candlelit affair under the stars, with the forest whispering all around you.
Day 2: The Gorilla Encounter
This is the day you’ve been waiting for. After a hearty breakfast, you are briefed by Uganda Wildlife
Authority rangers, who explain trekking etiquette. Then the journey begins. You hike through dense
vegetation, hear the echo of birdcalls, and feel the earth soft underfoot. Suddenly, your guide signals for
silence. Parting the foliage, you lock eyes with a silverback gorilla. His gaze is steady, powerful, and
profoundly human.
For one unforgettable hour, you watch them: mothers cradling infants, juveniles tumbling in play, the
mighty leader surveying his kingdom. Cameras click softly, but more than photographs, you take away
a memory carved deep in your heart.
After the trek, you return for a light cultural encounter with the Batwa, Uganda’s indigenous forest
people. Their songs and dances tell stories of a life once lived entirely in the forest.
By evening, you are back on your flight to Entebbe, carrying with you a once-in-a-lifetime story.
Ideal for: Business travelers, honeymooners on short vacations, and adventurers ticking gorilla trekking
off their bucket list.
