Gorilla Trekking Adventure

5 Days

Few experiences in the world compare to looking into the eyes of a mountain gorilla in the wild.
Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park host nearly half of
the world’s surviving mountain gorillas. With Focaccia Tours and Travel, this once-in-a-lifetime
encounter is carefully planned to balance comfort, adventure, and community involvement.
Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe
Guests are warmly welcomed at Entebbe International Airport, where one of our English-speaking
guides greets them. After a short briefing, travelers transfer to Kampala for an overnight stay in one of
our partner boutique hotels or lodges. The evening is free to relax, enjoy Ugandan cuisine, or stroll
through the lively capital.
Day 2 – Kampala to Bwindi
After breakfast, travelers embark on a scenic journey to Bwindi via our comfortable tour vans or buses.
The drive—8 to 10 hours—is broken up by cultural stops at the Equator for photo opportunities and a
local crafts market. Lunch is taken en route, and in the evening, clients check in at a cozy lodge near
Bwindi, where the cool mountain air and birdsong create the perfect welcome.
Day 3 – Gorilla Tracking
This is the highlight of the trip. After an early breakfast, guests report to the park headquarters for a
briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. Groups are then assigned gorilla families to track. The
trek may take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward is
beyond imagination: standing a few meters from a massive silverback, mothers cradling their infants,
and playful juveniles climbing trees. Cameras click, but hearts beat louder. After the trek, guests return
to the lodge, tired but glowing with joy.
Day 4 – Cultural Experience & Nature Walk
This day balances wildlife with culture. Travelers visit a Batwa community, the original forest dwellers,
who share stories of life before conservation, perform traditional dances, and guide visitors through their
medicinal plant knowledge. In the afternoon, a guided forest walk introduces guests to butterflies, unique
bird species, and stunning waterfalls. Evening is free for relaxation around a campfire.
Day 5 – Return to Kampala / Departure
Guests check out after breakfast, drive back to Kampala, and either board international flights at Entebbe
or continue with another tour extension (e.g., Queen Elizabeth National Park or Lake Bunyonyi
relaxation).
